Geared Up Birthday

This birthday card is for the final office birthday for the month of May.  It has been a very busy month!  So, this card has a little secret message.  Do you see the shadow behind the car?  That's the little secret.

Perhaps I should explain.  A few months ago at the office, there was the sound of a cat in the electrical room.  We all thought we were going a bit crazy, but that's exactly what was there.  A cat.  It had apparently fallen through the ceiling and couldn't get back out.  Once we got the door unlocked he went into hiding.  Eventually Animal Control came and remarkably got him out very quickly.  He didn't act feral, was very calm in the carrier and one of our staff, Jake (the birthday boy today), asked how he could adopt him.  He had to wait for a couple of days, but then was able to be first at the shelter to take him home.

He named him Eric and he's still a bit shy, so I thought perhaps he would like to hide behind the car for Jake's birthday card.  He's kind of a Siamese mix so I think the rendition here matches him pretty well from the pictures I had of him.

Dutch Door Fun Fold

I found this great "new to me" fold and wanted to share it with you.  This really comes together fairly quickly - the hard part is deciding the stamps you want to use.  I ended up using four different sets!  Yikes!

Dawn Griffith's video is where I found my inspiration.  I have all the measurements written below, but you will want to watch the video for how to do the base of the card.  It's very easy, but my brain may not explain it well enough.

Recipe Measurements:
Base - Gorgeous Grape - 8" x 7 1/8" - see video for scoring and folding (beginning at the 10:48 mark).

Whisper White:
3 3/4" x 3" - front panel
4 1/4" x 3 1/2" inside panel
1 7/8" x 1 1/2" (cut four) small panels

Granny Apple Green:
4" x 3 1/4" - front panel
4 1/2" x 3 3/4" - inside panel
2 1/8" x 1 3/4" (cut four) small panels
3 3/4" x 2 1/8" (cut 2) inside and outside vertical panels

Designer Series Paper - How Sweet It Is
3 1/2" x 1 7/8" (cut 2) inside and outside vertical panels

Stamps I used:
Birthday Delivery
Blow Out the Candles
Playful Backgrounds
Sweetest Thing

Stamp, Color and Assemble.  Isn't that fun!?

I'm going to be playing with this fold for some other ideas - hopefully with less stamps, but this was a late night adventure after dropping the Graduation Owls and Stamps off to Meghan.  She really loved them and I'm so happy we made them for her.  It made my day as much as it made hers I think.

Thank you for looking in today - it's Friday Eve!

Blow Out the Candles

Time to CASE the Catalog!  Since we all need birthday cards pretty much all the time, I thought this would be a fun one to do.

I chose to use one of our retiring In Colors - Lemon Lime Twist - besides it's such a fun bright color to celebrate with.  I'm going to miss this color when it goes away!

Recipe:
Lemon Lime Twist - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4" - embossed with Simple Stripes
Whisper White - 4" x 5 1/4" - die cut with the confetti framelit that comes in the bundle
Basic Black - die cut with the largest Scallop Circle from Layering Circles Die
Whisper White - die cut with the largest Stitched Shapes Circle Die
Whisper White - scraps for stamping and die cutting the cake, cake plate, balloon and sentiment.

When attaching the front to the card base, I used full size Stampin' Dimensionals just inside the circle.  I could have used some mini dimensionals near the edges, but I think this works okay and gives a nice shadow.

This would look good with any color combination, just pick the cake colors to go with whatever card base colors you choose.

Remember the inside!  I popped up the balloon with a Stampin' Dimensional.

Thank you for looking in today!  Happy Monday!
