Birthday in A Bag - Tutorial

As promised, here is the instructions on how to make this cute bag for a Party in a Bag!

Begin with a piece of Designer Series Paper 12" x 12".  Place the top of the paper (the top only matters if there's a pattern that you want to be upright!) on the Simply Scored and score at 2 7/8", 5 3/4", 8 5/8" and 11 1/2"

REMEMBER - DSP (Designer Series Paper) should be scored gently so that it doesn't tear!

Turn so the top is to the right and score at 2 1/2" and 10"

Fold on all the score lines

Then with the 2 1/2" scoreline on the bottom, snip up to that line on each of the folds and snip off the last little corner completely.

Flip the paper over so the pattern you want on the outside is face down.  Fold up the flap that has the little 1/2" fold as shown below.  Add Tear and Tape along the 1/2" fold.

Pull the paper strip off of the Tear and Tape to expose the adhesive.  Bring over the top and fold down onto the adhesive.  Rub your bone folder over the area to make sure it is nice and attached.

Fold in two of the bottom flaps and using Tear and Tape, adhere them together.

If you want to make the bottom stronger to hold whatever you place inside, add a piece of heavy cardstock before closing the other two flaps.  I used a piece of backing that comes with the Designer Series Paper.  It has a nice solid feel to it.  You could even double it if you wanted.

Add more Tear and Tape and attach the other two flaps.  Make sure it's nice and square before sticking together.

Pull the top together so that the sides curve in.  There is no crease line there, which makes this a nice soft look and a beautiful bag to give with the perfect gift inside.  If the sides are stiff, simply smooth in the curve with your fingers.

Tie a ribbon around the top where the score line is to finish it off.  I tied a knot to make it stable first and then tied the bow.  It should be loose enough to slip the ribbon off to remove the goodies and then slide the ribbon back on to re-use or display.

Oh and yes, the party time paper is retired, but it was for a good cause to a guy at the office that wouldn't appreciate any of our current paper (at least none that I have on hand).

Update on Nike...  This was last night when we brought him home.  He wasn't happy unless he was curled up in Dad's recliner, with Dad.  He has pain meds and a pain patch under the bandages.

Today he's doing so much better.  He's hungry and easily took his meds with his food.  Mark was a little upset that he had a PINK bandage, but since it was Valentine's Day, I thought it was perfect.  Bright pink with Purple hearts.

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.  Healing will take a while, but he can do it.  He has a good spirit, full of life and lots of feline sisters and a couple of brothers, to help him along.

  1. Good news about Nike. I think the bandage looks adorable. Teddy had a cream colored one with a red line on it. Of course it was dirty looking after a week. His was more of a cast like too that wouldn't bend and was terrible to get off. His other spots they didn't cover up with anything.

I will check out the birthday bag later. I am not feeling real well-sort of nauseated and cold. But, I am sure I will be fine.

    1. I hope you feel better. Get some rest and bundle up.

I'm exhausted and sore from picking Nike up and carrying him outside. It's not so hard to pick him up off the bed, but picking him up off the ground is so much harder.
